Just started a module in NIE about including students with special needs into our classroom. saw some touching videos that talk about people with disabilities, learning needs etc. felt very affected. and my heart goes out to them. *Special needs: dyslexia, autism, down's syndrome, mental retardation, cerebral palsy, hearing impairment, visual impairment, physical disability*
the lecturer said that we are usually shaped by our own beliefs. without much contact with people with special needs, we tend to form our own opinion when mentioning those of them. some of us even ignore their presence. but no we shouldn't! they are part of Singapore, part of the society. and that's why we must practise inclusion.
Because of myths, stereotypes and personal opinion, we tend to misunderstand these people. and that is why we should be more aware of such people. help them to find their own means of survival. i've seen many examples of those who can, if we help. if we support them..
this video is super touching. the song is quite inspirational too. just a 4 min video. watch it without any stereotype and personal bias and change your life..
